Xpress is scaling hybrid taxis and electric motorcycle taxis at the same time, aligning fleet growth with current charging infrastructure realities.
With 60 hybrid taxis now operating, 100 targeted by end-February, and a goal of 500 taxis by year-end, the company is also accelerating electric motorcycle deployment in dense urban corridors. Xpress says hybrids ensure reliable uptime for taxi fleets, while motorcycles electrify faster due to lower energy demands.
Manila, Philippines — February 2026 — Philippine mobility platform Xpress is expanding sustainable transportation across both four-wheel taxis and two-wheel motorcycle taxis simultaneously, adopting a parallel scaling strategy aligned with infrastructure readiness and fleet economics.
The company currently operates 60 hybrid taxis, with 100 expected on the road by the end of February pending licensing approvals. Xpress has set a target of 500 taxis by end-2026. At the same time, electric motorcycle taxis are increasing in dense urban corridors where lower energy demand and charging flexibility allow faster deployment.
According to the company, hybrid taxis are a strategic starting point.
“Commercial taxis require guaranteed uptime. Until high-speed charging infrastructure becomes sufficiently dense and reliable for fleet-level operations, hybrids allow sustainable scaling without compromising driver income stability,” the company said in a statement.
The company noted that electrification timelines differ by vehicle category. Electric motorcycles benefit from lower energy requirements and more flexible charging windows, while taxi fleets require rapid turnaround times and minimal risk of mid-shift downtime.
“Two-wheel and four-wheel electrification are operationally different challenges. Fleet strategy must reflect that distinction,” the statement added.
Xpress said its approach aims to balance infrastructure development, driver economics, and passenger demand while building toward longer-term full electric taxi deployment.
